    for Sustainable Life

    Seoul Design Award

The Seoul Design Award is an international competition awarded to designers and organizations that solve our daily problems with creative design and have a good influence on creating a harmonious relationship between people, society and the environment.
In order to include a wider range of creative examples of sustainable daily life for a better future, while preserving the purpose and value of the widely appealing Human City Design Award (started in 2019), in 2023 the name was changed to the “Seoul Design Award, for Sustainable Life.”
The desire for a sustainable daily life leading to a better future as expressed in the declaration and award is a common hope not only in Seoul but around the world. However, this cannot be achieved by one city alone. It is a path that must be explored together as we share and hear success stories from all corners of the globe. This is what led to creation of this global design award.

    Seoul Upcycling Plaza

The Seoul Design Foundation is operating the Seoul Upcycling Plaza, which belongs to the climate and environment headquarters of Seoul City through consignment as one of the challenges to resolve the issues of Seoul City with design thinking. To be reborn as a city characterized by the sound production and consumption of the planet’s resources, Seoul City declared "Resource circulation city Seoul Vision 2030" and opened the "Seoul Upcycling Plaza" in Seongdong-gu Janganpyeong, a recycling special district, in September 2017 as part of the effort for practices.
Consisting of five floors aboveground and two floors underground, Seoul Upcycling Plaza has total floor area of 23,265m². It is evaluated to be the largest in the world among upcycling-specializing facilities. It is using discarded resources as a new industry by integrating materials, designs, productions, and distribution in one place and operating various activities to suggest a new life for citizens.
The Seoul Upcycling Plaza’s upcycle involves both reuse and recycle, and the operation of the plaza is done with citizens and upcycle experts to deliver the new texture of Seoul life to the world through the woof and warp of the "recycle & upcycle" industry and culture.

  • Universal Design Spreading Awareness
    UD Lifestyle Platform

    Design for All

    Universal Design

The Seoul Design Foundation strives to spread the future value of "Universal Design" with all citizens by accompanying the weak. To this end, we will support the spread of universal design awareness and commercialization along with the Universal Design Cooperation Network, and operate the UD Life Platform, a universal design exhibition hall within DDP.
UD Lifestyle Platform is a design platform for research, development and spread of designs under the concept of “Design for All”. The domain of the platform originates from personal homes (UD Home) and expands to urban life shared by all (UD City). In addition, UD producers and consumers (UD People) meet on the platform to share different values and technologies, and create new designs. Universal Design (UD) refers to “Design for All” or in other words, design that everybody can use safely and conveniently regardless of gender, age, nationality and disability. Built on a 1,550㎡ area on the third floor of DDP’s Sallimteo, UD Lifestyle Platform consists of a UD Home for everyday living spaces, UD City featuring urban spaces for communication, and UD Library where one discovers values and inspiration of design. UD Home and City are permanent exhibition spaces where one can learn about the philosophy of universal design and get a glimpse of future lifestyles. The platform also promotes the development of the design industry through governance. UD Library offers a collection of books on designs to read and serves as a community for presenting new design trends. UDP is a platform where people can learn and experience the concept of universal design. It is also a space where new values can be realized. We hope you can experience “Design for All” and learn about designs that will create a better future.
