  • Building Story
“DDP, the largest 3D amorphous structure in the world”

DDP, the largest 3D amorphous structure in the world is an aggregation of Korea’s state-of-the-art architectural methods.
With 45,133 individual exterior panels all constructed and installed, and not a single flat wall inside or outside the building.

Designed by Zaha Hadid, DDP was design as if flowing like water, unlike other buildings with defined edges.
The ceiling could be the wall, and the wall could be the ceiling; this area and that area are not differentiated.
The open spaces are like sceneries, where all the spaces are interconnected, following along each others lines.

    2. UD Lifestyle Platform (UDP)

    Design for all

Universal Design is a "design for all" that may be used safely and conveniently by everyone regardless of gender, age, nationality or disability. Located on the third floor of DDP Design Shop, at a scale of 1,550m3, the UD Lifestyle Platform (UDP) is comprised of the UD Home, a residential space to experience a simple daily life; UD City, an urban space to socialize with others; and UD Library, a space to encounter values and inspirations. UD Home and UD City are permanent exhibition spaces showcasing the changes in universal design philosophy and future lifestyles. Moreover, revitalization of design industries through governance happens here. UD library is a communal space where people can read design books and showcase new design trends. UDP is a platform that materializes new values by offering a space for anyone to experience and easily understand universal design concepts. We wish that you experience a "design for all" and see designs meant for a brighter future.

    3. DDP Design Store

A space for Seoul's elegance in daily life

The DDP Design Store is a business operated by the Seoul Design Foundation that discovers excellent design products and supports marketing and promotion to designers through offline and online platforms. 4. Seoul ON

    A space for contact-free events

Seoul ON is a space for video conferences and contact-free events, which increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is equipped with extra large display and high resolution video devices, the latest sound and lighting equipment, and as an annexed facility, has a VIP waiting room, locker room, interpretation room, and lounge. It is a space not just for video conferences but a variety of online and offline events such as talk shows, forums and lectures.

    5. Light Space

A space for remembering and sharing splendid moments

Remember and share splendid moments drawn by SeouLight. Light Space is a space where the past, present, and future of SeouLight, which has established itself as a global media facade festival, coexist. 6. SeouLight

Through citizens' participation, capture the healing and comforting effects of design

Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), Seoul’s representative building, normally reveals its existence through its unique silver color. But at night, the curved silver surface becomes a canvas. SeouLight, with its overwhelming scale and dynamism, has gone global and is now catching the attention of the world. DDP is growing as a cultural asset of Seoul and playing a role in vitalizing local and national economy with Dongdaemun at its center.
